Current Students:
- Three Honors students have been selected as 2008 McNair scholars. They are Charles Mao, College of Business (Economics), Juan Plata, College of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) and Ilse Zuniga, Liberal Arts (Political Science).The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Institute at UNLV is committed to diversifying the ranks of American faculty and research institutions by encouraging and preparing undergraduate students who are members of underrepresented groups to pursue doctoral studies. McNair Scholars complete a research internship under the direction of a faculty mentor in their area of study as well as have other opportunities to help prepare them for graduate and professional study.
- Sean Kau, Senior majoring in Finance and Computer Science Major, Yamini Piplani, Senior majoring in Economics and Political Science, Sagar Raich, Junior majoring in Finance, Economics, Management and Accounting have been awarded the HSBC Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. Each year, The Honors College awards scholarships to outstanding junior and senior Business majors on behalf of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC).The HSBC is a bank established by Thomas Sutherland, to finance British Trade in the Far East in 1865. Congratulations to these outstanding students!

Milko, Emily Powers, and Sagar Raich:
These students were selected
as 2008-2009 UNLV Student Life Leadership Scholarship Recipients. Out
of the 10 recipients selected from an applicant pool of 76, six are
members of the Honors College. Selection criteria was grounded in each
applicant's exemplary dedication to academic achievement, impact on
campus, community involvement and exhibited leadership.
- Emily Powers, an Honors College student
and dual major in Political Science and English Literature, is a 2008
recipient of a prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation award!
As a Truman Scholar, Emily will continue her education, as well as her
already-impressive career, by attending a combined program in Law and
Social Work.
- Karen Levy, an Honors College student
and dual major in Biological Sciences and Biochemistry, has been awarded
an undergraduate scholarship from the Barry M. Goldwater Foundation!
Karen will use this exceptional award to continue research and classroom
work on her way to an M.D./Ph.D. focusing on Biotechnology.
- David Cotter:
Honors Student David Cotter took part in the Biomedical Research Apprenticeship
Program at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri during Summer
2007. The program, which is funded by the Division of Biological and
Biomedical Sciences, allowed Cotter to experience working full time in
a biomedical laboratory environment for 10 weeks.
- Jackie and Mollie Singer:
Two Honors College students were selected as “Most Caring Americans” by
Senator Robert J. Dole, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Val J.
Halamandaris, Founder and Director of the Caring Institute. Twins Mollie
and Jackie Singer were two of only five young adults to win the 2007
National Caring Award. The honor is bestowed annually upon the most caring
youth and adults in America.
