Message from the Dean

Let me be one of the first to introduce you to UNLV's Honors College, the academic home of some of the University's finest students and the former home of many of UNLV's most accomplished graduates!

The Honors College is the focal point of what we all hope will be a great life adventure for you, with components of intellectual challenge, personal growth and the development of life-long friends and colleagues.

Providing opportunities for your success is our job number one, and we are here to help you thrive in this vibrant social and intellectual environment. In the HC, you don't have to solo. This is not to say that we are responsible for your academic achievements — that, of course, will be up to you — though we certainly hope to enjoy the journey with you.

Honors College students spend a good deal of their campus time in the College suite, taking full advantage of the world-wide resources available in the Lied Library. The location of the Honors College in the physical center of UNLV's intellectual life is no accident — think of it as emblematic of the vast body of knowledge from which you will draw your most exciting and fulfilling academic experiences.

As you start your University career, it is not too soon to start thinking about how to structure the years leading to graduation. Naturally you will select an academic major, choosing from over 100 fields available to you at UNLV. The Honors College is a full partner with your "discipline" college; we work together jointly to ensure your success on your way to graduation.

Although it may seem way too soon, we urge our new students to start thinking about adding a Departmental Honors project to their college experiences. UNLV is just right for this kind of individualized learning; we are small enough to provide for lots of one-on-one student-faculty interaction, but large enough to have the comprehensive research core to sustain almost any interest you might wish to pursue. What a great opportunity!
